Swimming Lesson Sessions

PRIVATE

We provide dedicated one-on-one PRIVATE instruction that helps your child learn at twice the speed compared to group lessons. With a personalized approach, each student receives tailored lessons to meet their individual needs rather than what the goals are for a group. Investing in swimming lessons not only enhances your child's skills but also prioritizes their safety around water.

GROUP

Group lessons are available upon request for families with multiple siblings or friends at the same skill level.

Beginners with no prior experience with SSS must sign up for a REQUIRED two weeks of private lessons.

Former experienced students can sign up for group lessons or a one week refresher

Session Information

Our sessions consist of four-day lessons, running from Monday to Thursday, with each class lasting 30 minutes. For our Toddler levels, we recommend a MINIMUM of two consecutive weeks, especially if your child is new to swim lessons. Other levels can enroll for one week or more, depending on availability. Remember, every child learns at their own pace, and consistent practice outside of lessons can significantly enhance their comfort and confidence in the water. Our aim is to make swimming enjoyable while instilling essential safety and life-saving skills.

Policies

Swim Attire

Swimmers should prioritize safety and comfort by wearing well-fitted, appropriate swim attire that adequately covers the body. This ensures freedom of movement in the water and allows easier assistance during instruction.

Required Swim Gear includes:

  • Swim trunks with optional rash guards for boys

  • One-piece swimsuits with optional rash guards for girls. If you must use a 2 piece, Top MUST cover the belly to maintain safety during swim lessons.  NO BIKINIS ALLOWED

  • While swim caps are optional, they are recommended for those using hair oil products to keep the water clean and prevent irritation for others.

  • Towel

  • Goggles are allowed for experienced swimmers; however, beginners should wait until they feel comfortable in the water to avoid reliance on them for safety.

Suncreen

If sunscreen is needed, please apply it before arriving at the lesson. Sunscreen requires time to absorb, otherwise it can mix with the pool water and potentially sting swimmer’s eyes and frankly won't be as effective.

Weather Delays

Lessons continue during light rain. However, in case of lightning within a 7-mile radius, we reserve the right to postpone the lesson until the weather clears. If we must cancel the class we will reschedule for either Friday or Saturday. Please consult us before deciding not to attend. Contact Mrs. Jenn first at 205-246-9500. If unable to reach her please call Miss Maya at 205-650-0660. We will do our best to contact you ahead of time if we are going to cancel a class due to weather concerns.

Cancellation/Make-up

We commit to teaching during your scheduled lesson. If you schedule another activity during your swimming lesson time and fail to attend, you forfeit that lesson. There will be no make-up or refunds for missed lessons unless preapproved by SSS for extenuating circumstances (e.g. illness). We require at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations, if possible. If a make-up day is scheduled, we will inform those who have given 24-hour notice and it will be subject to availability.

Illnesses

While we acknowledge that illnesses cannot be predicted, we kindly request that parents or guardians provide us with at least 24 hours’ notice whenever possible if a swimmer is unable to attend a scheduled appointment. If proper notice is given, we will try to accommodate make up lessons if available.

CDC recommends that you can return to normal activities within 24 hours from symptoms, when you are improving, and have been fever free without fever-reducing medicine. There are no more restrictions to being exposed to COVID.

Sessions will not occur if your child has exhibited any one of the following symptoms within the last 24 hours:

  • Fever of 99º or higher

  • Diarrhea (runny, watery or bloody stools)

  • Vomiting (twice or more in 24 hours)

  • Body rash with fever

  • Sore throat with fever and swollen glands

  • Severe coughing

  • Eye discharge (thick mucus draining from eye, or pink eye)

  • Yellowish skin or eyes

  • Upper respiratory illness such as bronchitis or influenza

  • Chicken pox (until all blisters have dried and formed scabs)

  • Bacterial infection (Impetigo, Strep Throat, etc.)

  • Viral infection

  • Any parasitic infestation (Lice, Scabies, etc.)

  • Extreme irritability, exhaustion, or continuous crying.

Please note, the CDC no longer has guidelines for COVID exposure, please follow policy above if your swimmer tests positive.

Please let us know if you have questions before bringing your swimmer. We don’t need illnesses spreading through our swim school to other children and our instructors.

Behaviors

  • We wish to provide a welcoming, safe and inclusive environment.

  • We expect our Stevens Swim family (including clients, parents, swim instructors, facility staff etc.) to behave appropriately so that we can ensure a great experience for everyone.

  • Please supervise your child (ren) and any siblings in the pool area.

  • The pool deck can be slippery, so there is no running allowed on the deck.

  • If an instructor deems a lesson to be unsafe due to swimmer’s behaviors, they will talk to the parent/caregiver directly and notify the management team. Together we will collaborate and problem-solve to develop a plan to overcome the specific behavior.

  • If the management team finds any session puts the swimmer or staff member at risk, a pause in services may be required before returning. We will then reschedule a trial lesson upon return, before a permanent spot is re-allocated.

Safety

  • For insurance purposes parent/caregiver is required to stay on the premises. (In vehicle or poolside)

  • Please hold your child’s hand on the pool deck and walk them to their swim instructor at the start of each lesson, if needed.

  • At any time, the swim instructor may request that you stay on the pool deck for the entirety of the session to assist with safety.

  • Once the swimmer’s lesson is over, they are expected to leave the pool.

  • Our swim instructors will gladly assist your swimmer to enter and exit the pool. Please teach your swimmer NEVER to enter the pool without permission. Teacher should be in the pool first.

  • Swim instructors cannot accompany swimmers into the bathroom due to privacy regulations. Please ensure enough support is provided for your swimmer in this instance.

  • Our staff are always happy to problem-solve ideas to assist with smooth transitions, please talk to your instructor or management about your needs.

Restroom

Please remind your child to use the restroom before arriving for their lesson to help minimize interruptions. We can't add extra time for bathroom breaks. We have an inside restroom available for use, if needed. Thank you for your cooperation!

Parking

To avoid congestion, please plan to arrive and depart within a 10 minute window between classes. Our street is narrow and ends in a dead end. Please avoid blocking the road or anyone’s driveway. We have been asked not to turn around in the driveway at the end of the street. The house across from us has given permission to turn in their driveway. Please inform others of this rule when a different person is bringing your child. Let’s work together to be good neighbors.
